WHAT ARE YOUR ORGANIZING TIPS? ANSWERED BY GAEL BOURQUIN

By GAEL BOURQUIN – The Horse Trailer:

Spring is here and it is time to get ready for the summer show season. One of the things, one need to do, is to get your horse trailer ready. The actual trailer itself needs to be gone over for a safety and maintenance check. I have my trailer done by an outside source but some of you may be able to do this on your own.

After the trailer is in order, I do a complete inventory of what I carry in my trailer. I have a complete set of grooming tools, saddle pads, leg wraps and so on that I always have in my dressing room. I check over each container and replenish whatever I need for the show season. I used to keep index cards taped to the boxes listing what was to be in each. One can also tape an index card inside the trailer with a general listing as a reminder or check list so that nothing is forgotten.

With the wonderful plastic containers available today, it makes organization quite easy. I label each container so that anyone helping out does not have to go through the entire area to find what is needed. Try PVC pipe with end caps for whips. I use the two inch diameter and cut it to the length I need.

When I return home from a trip, I clean what needs to be cleaned and put everything back in its place so that I am ready to go for the next event.

I feel there is enough pressure on one just getting the horse ready and your other creatures cared for in your absence without the added worry about leaving something behind. I have been there and done that and it saves me from having to purchase something from the mobile tack shops that I don’t really need nor want.
